Stepping Forward: Calit2's eHealth Collaboratory

Title: Stepping Forward: Calit2's eHealth Collaboratory
Event Date: 6/2/2011 - 6/2/2011

Calit2 Building Auditorium and Atrium, UC Irvine

Online Registration is Closed. Registration at the door is $30 - exact cash or check payable to UC Regents will be accepted only.

By using pressure sensors and an accelerometer, a balancemonitoring insole that fits into any shoe captures real-time data about the wearer’s gait as she goes about her daily business; the information is sent directly to a healthcare provider. This is just one of the many innovative technologies being developed in Calit2’s new eHealth Collaboratory. Advances in information technology are creating revolutionary healthcare-delivery options that can improve quality, reduce cost and provide patient empowerment.

Join us June 2 to learn about the Collaboratory, where researchers from different disciplines share ideas, learn from each other and demonstrate working prototypes, such as the “Stability Sole.” Other demonstrations include:

Resonating Arm Exerciser -- ultra-low-cost device for arm rehabilitation after neurologic injury

Music Glove -- dexterity training with music and a sensorized glove for people with hand impairments

Eco-nodes -- inexpensive, compact sensor platform to wirelessly monitor babies for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

Wimplifier -- computer-vision system for home telerehabilitation after stroke

SHAPe -- balance, sensing and motion-capture tools for movement analysis, mobility therapy and rehabilitation

EarTrumpet -- a customized hearing-aid app for iPhone, iPod or iPad -- Web-based tinnitus (ringing in the ears) therapy tool

iMove Wheelchair Trainer -- a game-based, interactive, robotic-maneuvering system for children with disabilities

BATs -- bionic and assistive technologies to improve quality of life for the elderly and persons with disabilities

Telios -- telepresence interactive operating system for low-cost, low-barrier telemedicine applications

Pain Management -- meditative assistance, mobile and Web-based tools

MF3 Center -- micro/nanoscale fluidic devices for advancing novel applications in healthcare and biodetection
